International Women’s Day// The Things I Want to Teach My Daughter

IMG_0380_Moment(2)It is International Women’s Day today and it got me thinking all about the little woman that I am raising, my daughter. It’s hard to imagine Darcie as a 5 year old let along a 25 year old but I know that the person she becomes will be heavily influenced by the way that we choose to raise her. There are so many things I want to teach her, while always encouraging her to think for herself and to know her own mind. I can’t wait to see the glimmer of excitement in her eyes as she tells me about something she loves and in turn teaches me things that I have never known.

I want to teach her to think for herself and to have her own adventures, no matter what everyone else is doing.

I want to teach her that she doesn’t have to like the same things as her friends do. The beauty of her is that she is her.

I want to teach her that sometimes the world might not seem fair but that it is still a wonderful world, full of opportunity, excitement and inspiration.

I want to teach her that she will face challenges but that she is strong enough and smart enough to overcome them.

I want to teach her to love life, to respect the world around her and to be kind to everyone she meets.

I want to teach her to look on the bright side of life and to help others to see it too.

I want to teach her to combat negativity with positivity and to be the one to brighten someone’s day.

I want to teach her that she doesn’t have to look a certain way or act a certain way just to fit in.

I want to teach her that you don’t need a man to validate you.

I want to teach her to put time and effort into her relationships and have strong friendships.

I want to teach her to be passionate, to love fiercely and to stand up for what is right and good.

I want to teach her to find creativity and inspiration everyday and to do things simply for the love of it not just to make money or gain status.

I want to teach her to be generous and to help people in any way that she can.

I want to teach her to be brave and to stand up for herself. To be kind but not to let people walk all over her.

Above all else, I want to teach her to be herself and to stay true to herself, there is no one else quite like her and she is wonderful.
