January is well known for being a difficult month. The excitement of Christmas is over and extravagant spending over the festive season could well have left you feeling more than slightly strapped for cash. I’ve been very open on my blog about the fact that we are always trying to save money. Although Dan works very hard and earns a very good wage, it is still only one wage, for three (soon to be four) people. We try to be as frugal as possible and so I am always on the lookout for new and smart ways for us to save money. We are currently saving up to buy our first house and so every penny really does count. I know I’m not the only one trying to find new ways to save money as all my other money saving posts have done well in the past. So, here is an updated list of ways that you could be saving money this year. Continue reading “Ways To Save Money This Year”
One of things that Dan and I love to do the most, is to travel. Pre baby days saw us gallivanting off on adventures left, right and centre. Any spare money we had went on saving up for the next trip and we’d spend our evenings and weekends planning where we wanted to travel to next and dreaming of exotic countries and exploring different cultures. I know some people seem to manage travelling with a toddler, you hear stories about women who use their maternity leave to travel the world or families who just uproot to go and live on an island somewhere, away from the stresses of modern life. And while that sounds great, that just hasn’t been a reality we have even wanted to attempt. For a start I could never imagine taking our baby far away from her family and for them not to have the chance to know her properly. I take my hat off to people who make it work but that’s just not the path we have taken. Continue reading “Family Holidays Wishlist”
When we moved into our current home I loved so many things about it; the layout, the garden, the space in the lounge. There was just one problem, the decor! Luckily we have been able to change the decor to suit our own tastes which we have been doing, slowly but surely, since we moved in. The worst room by far was definitely our bedroom. Orange carpet, orange curtains, badly fitted wardrobes, do I really need to say more? The wardrobes were the first to go, which then revealed a ceiling that needed to be plastered and a carpet that definitely needed changing.
One fresh new ceiling, one lovely grey carpet, three glorious white walls and one simple grey wall later and it was finally starting to feel more like our bedroom and less like something the eighties had left behind. Continue reading “Finishing Touches With Desenio”
Now that the news is out there I feel I have a lot to update you on how this pregnancy has been so far. It was so difficult not to mention how I was feeling in blog posts or to have a quick moan about morning sickness on Twitter, but now that I can let it all out, that is exactly what this post is going to be. It could be a long one so you might want to go grab a cup of tea and get comfy.
My First Symptoms and Taking a Pregnancy Test
I knew I was pregnant before I took a test. I think when you’ve been pregnant before you can recognise the signs much easier. Everyone responds to pregnancy differently and so it’s not always easy to self diagnose on Google without taking a test. But the second time around, I just knew. Changing rooms were never something I really gave much thought to until I became a mum. But since having Darcie they have become a subject I feel I could go on endlessly about (I won’t, don’t worry, I know you’re mainly here to win the changing bag!). Well, I’m going to go on just a little bit to introduce this campaign that Sudocrem are running in association with the charity PAMIS (Promoting A More Inclusive Society). I was shocked when I read that there are 800,000 disabled children across the UK and only 1058 Changing Places toilets that meet all of their needs. This leaves many parents having to resort to changing their child on the floor in the toilet, which we all know is not the most hygienic of places at the best of times. I know that when I am out and about with Darcie I will always try to find the best place to take her to change her because it is awful having to change a nappy in unsanitary and smelly conditions. Luckily baby changing facilities on the whole are okay and so I can barely imagine what these parents and children have to go through on a daily basis when they simply need to get them changed. Today something really special happened. You won’t understand it at all yet but today I told you something amazing, something you definitely don’t hear every day. I told you that you are going to be a big sister. I showed you a blue and white stick that had two lines on it, one very faint but definitely there, and I cried and told you how amazing it is and that Mummy is going to give you a best friend for life. You looked at me as I cried tears of happiness and you laughed and tried to grab the stick and put it in your mouth, that made me laugh and then we were both laughing while I was still crying. Unless you are somebody who solely reads this blog and doesn’t follow me across social media, then you will probably have already seen my pregnancy announcement last week! I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to share this news with the blog as we wanted to make sure we had told all of our friends and family in person, where possible, before we posted the news online. I am now 15 weeks pregnant and due on the 24th June 2018. That date seems so far away but from how quickly time has flown by since having Darcie, I just know that it will come round before we know it.
