Eight Tips To Lose The Baby Weight

mineral-water-lime-ice-mint-158821.jpeg

I’d like to start by saying that losing the baby weight is absolutely not the be all and end all of life. For some women the weight just falls off and for others it’s a struggle that last for years. I would say that I fall somewhere in the middle of those extremes; breastfeeding meant that I was unable to cut calories too drastically as it affected my milk supply but equally, within a year I was basically back to my pre-pregnancy weight and size. Despite being ‘back to normal’, there really is no such thing. My body created, birthed and fed a human and that’s not something that you can magically erase. I’m not going to tell you to ‘love your tiger stripes’ because that honestly cringes me out so badly, but I am going to tell you not to let it get you down. Your body has achieved amazing and wonderful things and how you look in a bikini is so irrelevant when you compare it to the life that you have created and sustained.

All that being said, I think every woman has googled ‘how the hell can I lose this baby weight?’ at least once since giving birth and so I thought I would give my two cents on the whole postpartum weight loss situation. Continue reading “Eight Tips To Lose The Baby Weight”

Dear Darcie, This Is The Last Time

IMG_5641Dear Darcie,

Tonight I fed you for the last time. Don’t worry, you’ll still be getting solid food and coconut milk and all of your favourite things but this is the last time you’ll have my milk. This moment has been gradually approaching for months and I know in my heart that you are ready to stop now. I think that really you have been ready for a while and that it was me that needed to carry on. I really needed you to keep needing me. I wanted to keep providing you with the one thing that only I can provide. Or so I thought. But as I sit here now, holding your soft warm little body in my arms, I realise that it’s not true. There are so many other things that only I can do for you, because I am your Mum and that is something that nobody else can ever be. Continue reading “Dear Darcie, This Is The Last Time”

Maternity & Nursing Style Picks September 2017

I think any breastfeeding Mum knows the struggle of finding clothes that are nursing friendly but that actually look nice as well. This has been a big personal battle for me, especially in the beginning when they are feeding so frequently and there’s not chance of ‘well maybe she won’t need a feed…’ Continue reading “Maternity & Nursing Style Picks September 2017”

Yes, I’m Still Breastfeeding

IMG_0025Looking back through this blog I realise that I talk about breastfeeding a lot. I’m not actually as obsessed by breastfeeding as it would seem, but there is no denying that it has been a big part of my life for the last fourteen months so it is only natural that I have a lot of thoughts on the subject. I think it’s easy to assume that because I am still breastfeeding now, that it has been plain sailing. This is not the case, I never thought I would still be breastfeeding at six weeks let alone at nearly fifteen months, but here we are. So how did I accidentally become an ‘extended breastfeeder’? “A Breastfeeding Mother”

I often think that breastfeeding mothers get a slightly bad reputation, from things I see online and hear at baby groups it sometimes feels like we are seen to be the most judgemental type of Mum. We are seen to be the Jehovah’s Witnesses of Motherhood, knocking door to door, preaching to everyone we meet that ‘breast is best’ and condemning anyone in our path who uses formula. I get where this has come from, because there are a small percentage of breastfeeding mothers who are on a mission to save the world one boob at a time. But the majority of us are not like that, and for anyone who knows me will know I am certainly not like that. Continue reading ““A Breastfeeding Mother””

Why I’ve Stopped Reading Breastfeeding Horror Stories, And You Should Too.

You know the ones I mean. A woman is breastfeeding her baby when an ignorant  stranger starts to harass her and try to make her feel uncomfortable, then a wonderful, kind person steps in to come to her defense and save the day.  These kind of posts quickly go viral on mums groups and then in the comments below are hundreds of other people telling their similar stories. Don’t get me wrong, it must be horrible to have something like this happen to you and I get that you would want to vent and get it off your chest but I really think that reading all these horror stories can have such a damaging effect for breastfeeding mothers, particularly those who are just starting out.  Continue reading “Why I’ve Stopped Reading Breastfeeding Horror Stories, And You Should Too.”

Let’s Talk About Cluster Feeding

img_6528As I approach my 9 month breastfeeding milestone I’ve been thinking a lot about how different breastfeeding is now compared to feeding a newborn. You can read my My Breastfeeding Journey here, but to summarise – it was hard in the beginning. Cracked nipples, blocked ducts and mastitis were some of the factors that nearly led to me giving up breastfeeding, but I pushed through all of that and after around 6 weeks breastfeeding became pretty much pain free. Breastfeeding in Public

I never thought I would have an issue with breastfeeding in public. I have always  been a pretty confident person, sure of myself and my decisions. So when I was a few weeks post partum and thinking about going out and about a bit more, it surprised me that I began to feel nervous at the thought of feeding my daughter around strangers.
