On Father’s Day

This feels like Dan’s first Father’s Day, we hardly celebrated the day last year as we were still very much in the frazzled newborn haze. I managed to organise a card for him but I think that’s where the festivities began and ended. So this year I want to do it properly, I want him to know how much we appreciate his hard work and commitment to his role as Darcie’s Daddy. So this ones for you Dan, maybe this will be the first of my posts that you read to the end… Continue reading “On Father’s Day”

Baby Led Weaning Tips

15380647_10154666633381501_2266954660285765886_nWe started baby led weaning almost three months ago and as I feel I have pretty much got to grips with it I thought I would be able to give some tips to anyone thinking about trying it, or to somebody just starting out. Because it is a relatively new idea to a lot of people, there are many different concerns that you could have. You might be panicking about them choking on something you give them or you might be put off by inevitable mess that comes with allowing a 6 month old baby to be let loose on cheesy spaghetti or natural yoghurt. I’m not going to sugar coat it, there are moments my heart has stopped at the size of food that Darcie has in her mouth and it will be messy, so messy. But it is also amazing, and so incredible to cook something that your baby enjoys and to know that they are getting a full range of textures and flavours. Continue reading “Baby Led Weaning Tips”

Slow Down, Baby Girl

You are only nearly nine months old and yet already I have a bittersweet taste of your growing up. You are growing in independence and confidence each day which is so amazing and exactly what I wanted for you but I can’t help but long for the newborn bundle who needed me so strongly. I carried you with me for 9 months and now you sleep in your own room at night. I nursed you for 6 months and now you love to tuck into cheesy spaghetti and juicy tomatoes. Baby Led Weaning Update at 8 Months

About a month ago I wrote this post all about the start of our Baby Led Weaning journey which had actually begun a month before that, so I though it was about time for an update. So much has changed! She is  now 8 and a half months old and we are still on the Baby Led Weaning path, she hasn’t had any purees so far and is absolutely loving her finger foods! Trying Baby Led Weaning

As soon as we started thinking about weaning, we were recommended Baby Led Weaning by the health visitors. For anyone that hasn’t heard of it before, it is basically waiting until your baby is 6 months to give them any type of food and then skipping the purée/baby rice stage and going straight into finger foods and letting your baby feed themselves. This is supposed to have many benefits for the baby such as having a smaller chance of becoming overweight as they in theory will only eat while they are hungry. It also means they learn to chew rather than just swallow and should mean they grow up liking a wide range of flavours and textures. I’m sure that could all be better explained but that’s my basic understanding of it. Continue reading “Trying Baby Led Weaning “

Six Month Update

I just want to start by saying – how on earth are we already at six months?! It seems like only yesterday we arrived home from the Birth Centre with a tiny, delicate newborn that somehow we had to figure out how to look after. Fast forward six months and we now have a bubbly little bundle of joy with a chubby belly an infectious giggle and who loves nothing more than to be chucked in the air.
