I’m sure all of us parents are only too well aware of how much clutter our children accumulate. And I’m sure that we’re equally as well aware of how damn expensive all of this clutter can be! You know the scenario; you buy your child a toy that you think they will love and cherish for weeks (being optimistic!) but within half an hour it’s been discarded to the plastic graveyard and you’re left wondering why you even bothered. I recently discovered Pound Toy which, as the name suggests, sells toys at some real bargain prices. I actually found items on the website for less than a pound! That definitely makes it sting less when they get discarded after half an hour. They have a really good range of toys and activities for children too, ranging from teething toys for small babies to science experiment sets for thirteen year olds. When I was browsing the website I found it easiest to sort via age but you could also choose to sort the toys by brand if your child is particularly keen on a certain franchise. I was so happy with the range of items that I picked out for Darcie, and I even gave into temptation and bought Ernie Bump a little something too.
I started with quite a crafty theme and chose her a huge selection pack of stickers and also some Play Doh. Darcie had never actually played with Play Doh before and so when it arrived I set it all up for her, and prepared myself for her to get bored in five seconds or to try and eat the lot. But instead she got totally stuck in and it’s become one of her favourite activities over the last week. All the colours are now merged into one delightful brown colour but she still loves playing with it and demanding that I make her ‘cat’ after ‘cat’ after ‘cat’.
I also chose her a couple of inflatable toys because I knew she would find them really exciting. I chose a dinosaur and a pig, an off combination but two of her favourite things! There’s no logical way to understand a toddler’s preferences! She loves playing with the dinosaur, and I’m saving the pig for a rainy day when I next need to pull some good entertainment out of the bag!
Probably her favourite thing that I got was a Finding Dory play set which you can set up so that the little fish swims all the way around the loop. Anything involving water is a winner for Darcie and so this little set totally captures her attention. I do end up with quite a wet floor by the end of it all and so I’m looking forward to Summer when I can send her out into the garden with toys like this.
Other bits that I got her included a Paw Patrol cushion, some play hammers and screwdrivers and a bubble machine. All for under £50!
