Brunch at Lakaz Maman

Last Sunday I was lucky enough to be invited to try out the new Breakfast menu at Lakaz Maman in Southampton. Myself and a few other local bloggers all piled into this beautiful ‘home from home’ style restaurant and had a lovely morning tasting the new menu and enjoying the atmosphere. Lakaz Maman is a restaurant opened by Master Chef winner Shelina Permalloo who wanted to create a relaxed restaurant focusing on delicious Mauritian food and a homely atmosphere. I can definitively say she has achieved both of these things and I look forward to returning to Lakaz Maman soon.

The new menu all sounded wonderful but I opted for the Cinnamon Toast with Coconut and Tropical Fruits. I was so glad I did because it was seriously delicious (and looks good in a photo too!). The other dishes around me all looked amazing too and there wasn’t a single person at the table unhappy with their choice. We were also presented with a couple of exotic drinks for us to try. There was Alooda, a vanilla and coconut milk drink, and Panakon which was made from lemon and tamarind. They both tasted divine but the Alooda was by far my favourite as I love anything remotely coconut flavoured! I also ordered a decaf Latte which was the perfect accompaniment to my brunch.

We were introduced to the restaurant and the food by Shelina herself which was really lovely. It was fascinating to hear her stories from her time on Master Chef and to learn all about the process of setting up her own restaurant. She described Lakaz Maman as a ‘labour of love’ and that love shines through the whole restaurant. The decor was stunning and made me feel like I was in a much warmer climate than the English drizzle that was actually happening outside the restaurant doors.

If you are local to Southampton and fancy trying something a bit different, then I can’t recommend Lakaz Maman enough. You can expect a warm welcome and a delicious menu, perfect!
