We want our homes to feel like a home – we want to be able to crash in through the door, throw our stuff down on the floor, and then get immediately settled in after a hard day’s work. We love to be surrounded by things that feel cozy, and little trinkets that remind us of the good times in our lives; all in all, we want our interior decoration to feel homey!
And so, it’s time to do a little bit of investigating. There’s some furniture out there that feels a bit more homey than others, and you might want to start decorating in their themes to really make your house feel like a home.
A Mid Century Style
Mid century modern has quite the 50s vibe to it, but it’s a very popular style of decorating, due to how bright the furniture tends to look. The use of light browns and natural wood textures, as well as dashes of bright yellow and baby blue here and there, can be a great way to add some personality to an otherwise dark space.
And mid century furniture can be found in both the top contemporary stores, as well as antique and charity shops. It’s been around for about 70 years now, after all, and you’ll always be able to snag a good deal if you know where to look!
Something Industrial or Rustic
Industrial Furniture is something we all love the look of, and there’s no denying that. We like the idea of the texture, and the coarseness of some of the patterns an industrial style incorporates. After all, it tends to look like very little decoration has gone into the space, but the floors can sparkle underneath all of those cozy rugs and blankets.
An industrial style is quite popular in the kitchen, what with breakfast bars and stools, as well as backsplashes and exposed brick. A rustic sort of glam can be brought to your cooking space with such a decoration theme, and you might even be able to fit a fireplace in there with no problems as well!
A Nautical Theme
Finally, a nautical theme is one we don’t hear about too often, but it’s definitely a homey and exciting option, especially within the bedroom. It adds a sense of adventure to a space, what with the mystery of the ocean that fascinates us all. At the same time, it makes us very thankful for the dry and warm land we actually live on!
Of course, blues and whites and all kinds of pale green tones are going to be used in a nautical design, which can serve to be quite gender neutral for nursery purposes… Why not save this design for later?
A Relaxed Vibe
It doesn’t get much more relaxed than a hammock does it? Tropilex have a beautiful collection of hammocks and swinging chairs that would make any indoor or outdoor space feel totally relaxed and at ease. I love hammocks in neutral, calm tones and colours for the ultimate feeling of rest and tranquillity.
If you want your house to feel more like a home, make sure you’re making the right decision over your interior design style. You want to be able to come home and feel at home, and like nothing else needs doing!
