I know there will be eye rolls at the mention of the word ‘Christmas’ but let’s be honest, it pays to be prepared for the most expensive time of year. Although I haven’t quite started shopping for the big day, I have started to think of ways that we can start to save pennies in preparation for the multitude of things that I know I will get sucked into buying. Every year I leave it all too late and it turns into a big credit card job. But, with this being the first year that Darcie will properly enjoy the Christmas spirit, I want to make sure we can enjoy it all and eliminate the financial stress. So here are some of the things I’ve either started doing or will be doing as we get closer to the festive season. Continue reading “Budgeting For Christmas”
I’ve spoken briefly on here before about how we have been gradually modernising our house, but today I thought I would talk in more detail about how we have achieved that without breaking that bank. We don’t own our house and so all of the changes we have made have been as low cost as possible as ultimately we are trying to save for our own property not spend money on this one. I’m sure there are lots of people in the same situation as us so I thought I would share some the ways that we have modernised our home on a budget. I’m also planning a whole post on our lounge makeover so keep your eyes peeled for that!
I know it’s not just me who is always looking for ways to save money. I know this because whenever I post about saving money or living frugally, my stats go through the roof. We live in such an expensive world, sometimes it feels expensive to simply live let alone to splash out for luxuries. It’s too easy to ‘pop into Sainsburies’ and come out £50 poorer and a family day trip these days can set you back well over £100. Months go by and you’re left wondering where on earth all your hard earned money has run off to. With this in mind I decided to put together a list of apps that can actually save you money, one of them can even save you money on that extortionate phone bill you pay out for every month.
I think it’s a common trait of our generation that we just LOVE setting goals. Whether that be small daily goals or big, ambitious life goals, it is a word that features frequently in our conversations. I try to set myself little daily or weekly goals which give me a good sense of accomplishment when I can tick them off my to do list and I also have a list of bigger goals that are always in the back of my mind. Things that I would really like to look back and think ‘Yes, I’m glad I did that!’ I’ve never actually made a physical list of these bigger goals and so I want to write them down now. This list has grown and changed throughout my life so far and I’m sure that it will continue to do so. But for now, in no particular order, these are my life goals.
I’m sure all of us parents are only too well aware of how much clutter our children accumulate. And I’m sure that we’re equally as well aware of how damn expensive all of this clutter can be! You know the scenario; you buy your child a toy that you think they will love and cherish for weeks (being optimistic!) but within half an hour it’s been discarded to the plastic graveyard and you’re left wondering why you even bothered. I recently discovered Pound Toy which, as the name suggests, sells toys at some real bargain prices. I actually found items on the website for less than a pound! That definitely makes it sting less when they get discarded after half an hour. Continue reading “Pound Toy Review & Giveaway”
Valentines Day is basically the Marmite of celebrations. Personally I’m in the ‘love it’ camp mainly for the reason that I love having any excuse to celebrate. Pre kids, Valentines used to mean a weekend away, a romantic meal out or some other indulgent surprise. But when you add children into the mix, there’s no denying that things do change. The little thoughts and gifts mean a lot more when you spend all your time looking after little people and putting yourself last. I’ve put together a list of a few things that I think any mum or mum to be would love. And you can trust me on this as I currently have an insiders opinion on both! January is well known for being a difficult month. The excitement of Christmas is over and extravagant spending over the festive season could well have left you feeling more than slightly strapped for cash. I’ve been very open on my blog about the fact that we are always trying to save money. Although Dan works very hard and earns a very good wage, it is still only one wage, for three (soon to be four) people. We try to be as frugal as possible and so I am always on the lookout for new and smart ways for us to save money. We are currently saving up to buy our first house and so every penny really does count. I know I’m not the only one trying to find new ways to save money as all my other money saving posts have done well in the past. So, here is an updated list of ways that you could be saving money this year. Continue reading “Ways To Save Money This Year”
