Humbug! The Hedgehog Who Couldn’t Sleep | Theatre Review

For as long as I can remember, the theatre has always been a huge part of my life. I’m a massive advocate for how beneficial being involved with the theatre can be for people of all ages and so it’s something I’m definitely keen to encourage for my both my children. Whether they grow up simply enjoying visiting the theatre and watching performances or whether they become more involved and on the stage themselves, I really hope it is a part of their lives the way it has been of mine. With that in mind, you can imagine how delighted I was when we were invited along to The NST City Studio to see their opening performance of Humbug! The Hedgehog Who Couldn’t Sleep. The production is aimed at 2-5 year olds but all the family is welcome so we all went along together, bringing Ernie (5 months old) along too. (more…)

Christmas At Keydell Nurseries

This year was the first year that we decided to take Darcie to a grotto to see Santa Claus. She’s seen him in passing before and once at a Christmas party when she was 6 months old, but we’ve never done the whole ‘grotto thing’  before. At two and a half years old and with a perfect understanding of Christmas and Santa, we decided it was time. I say ‘we’, but Dan is basically Scrooge so really it was just me that made that decision. And I have to say, I was excited! Probably more excited than some of the children going to see him themselves. Because I actually can’t remember ever going to a grotto when I was younger. Santa wasn’t a big part of my childhood, and while I definitely don’t begrudge my parents for that, it does make me even more excited to experience it all with my own children. (more…)

A Date At Turtle Bay

I’ve always been a big fan of Turtle Bay. As soon as one opened close to us, it became a favourite go-to place for cocktails with the girls. The decor and ambience are always spot on and the cocktails are always delicious. One thing I’d not ever really tried at Turtle Bay was the food, so I was delighted when we were invited to try out their new menu at the Winchester branch. I knew that if it lived up to the standard of everything else that I know and love about Turtle Bay then I wouldn’t be disappointed. It was also the perfect excuse for Dan and I to have some toddler free time together, to enjoy some adult conversation and hot food while Ernie napped in his pram and Darcie went to the aquarium with her Granny. The Watercress Line | Day Out With Thomas

You may have read about the fantastic day out we had at The Watercress Line at The War on The Line Event back in June. It was such a fun day and so I was thrilled when we were invited back to review a Day Out With Thomas. The Watercress Line is one of the few places in the country where you can still ride on Steam Trains all year round. Once a year they hold a very popular event called a Day Out With Thomas which is totally centred around the ever popular Thomas The Tank Engine. We went along on Thursday and we weren’t disappointed! Darcie didn’t really know about Thomas the Tank Engine prior to the event but by the end of the day she was excitedly yelling for Thomas every time he came into the station. If you have a little Thomas fan at home, this isn’t an event to miss! (more…)

A Family Weekend | Fun Fair Rides & Strawberry Picking

As much as I am excited to meet our baby boy very soon, I am also really enjoying these last few weeks as a family of three. Although life will change for the better, there is no denying that it will change and that for a while Ernie’s needs will take priority over fun days out with Darcie. I’m making the most of this time and loving thinking of little things for us to do to spend quality time together before our newest member arrives. This weekend there was a fun fair set up locally to us which we went to on Saturday afternoon and then on Sunday we went strawberry picking at Pickwell Farm. These were both little outings that Darcie absolutely loved and made for a lovely family weekend together. (more…)

Taking Time Out at Carey’s Manor SenSpa

If you surveyed a bunch of mums and asked them what they would like most in the world right now, I can guarantee you that the majority of them would wistfully say a Spa Day and then laugh to themselves because, you know, how often do us mums actually get to treat ourselves to that extent? I’ve been longing for a Spa Day since before my daughter was born, nearly two whole years ago, but I’ve never actually managed to find the time to give myself that break and take a day to relax. When Carey’s Manor offered myself and a friend the chance to review the facilities and have a ‘Mums Day Off’, we of course jumped at the chance! After a lot of back and forth we eventually managed to find a day we could both do, when the children would be looked after and we could head off to the Spa and give ourselves the relaxing day that we both needed!
