I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now, but what with being pregnant and looking after a toddler, time has somehow managed to slip away from me in that way that it always does! In a way it is good that I am writing this at 34 weeks pregnant as I have now had almost my entire pregnancy to think about what have been my favourite maternity items and products throughout this time. It’s so easy to spend your pregnancy thinking solely about the arrival of your little one, after all that is the most exciting part! But it’s also important to remember to look after yourself while you are doing the most important job of all – growing your baby. Most of these items are related to being comfortable and treating yourself, which are obviously two very important things for any expecting mum. Continue reading “My Maternity Favourites”
Every pregnant woman knows the struggle of finding great maternity clothes. It can be hard enough to pull together a small selection of every day outfits that you feel comfortable in, but the struggle really becomes real when you have a special occasion to attend and nothing nice that fits over your bump. I recently had a maternity photo shoot booked in with the lovely Rebecca Frost Photography which I was so excited for but also totally stumped as to what I was going to wear to make me feel special on the day. That’s where Tiffany Rose Maternity stepped in. Tiffany Rose sell a beautiful selection of maternity dresses, from gorgeous and stylish day wear to ‘the dress of your dreams’ bridal wear. Anyone that knows us will know that we love being outdoors. Dan and I are both very outdoorsy people and that has definitely rubbed off on our daughter. Whatever the weather, there will be some activity that Darcie wants to do outside. Whether that’s splashing in the puddles on rainy days or cruising around in her new Cozy Coupe in the sunshine.
One of my biggest regrets about my first pregnancy is not having any maternity photos taken. I seriously have hardly any photos of me when I was pregnant with Darcie, and the ones that do exist – I really don’t like. I have a few quick snaps from my baby shower or family gatherings, where the angle is all wrong and I just don’t like the way I look in them. I struggle a lot with body image during pregnancy and so I knew that having some nice photos taken during this pregnancy would really help me to feel good about my changing body. I am actually planning a whole post on the subject of body positivity during pregnancy so I’ll save that ramble for another day and for now just tell you all about the lovely experience I had on my maternity photo shoot with the lovely Becky of Rebecca Frost Photography.
I know it’s not just me who is always looking for ways to save money. I know this because whenever I post about saving money or living frugally, my stats go through the roof. We live in such an expensive world, sometimes it feels expensive to simply live let alone to splash out for luxuries. It’s too easy to ‘pop into Sainsburies’ and come out £50 poorer and a family day trip these days can set you back well over £100. Months go by and you’re left wondering where on earth all your hard earned money has run off to. With this in mind I decided to put together a list of apps that can actually save you money, one of them can even save you money on that extortionate phone bill you pay out for every month.
Last Sunday I was lucky enough to be invited to try out the new Breakfast menu at Lakaz Maman in Southampton. Myself and a few other local bloggers all piled into this beautiful ‘home from home’ style restaurant and had a lovely morning tasting the new menu and enjoying the atmosphere. Lakaz Maman is a restaurant opened by Master Chef winner Shelina Permalloo who wanted to create a relaxed restaurant focusing on delicious Mauritian food and a homely atmosphere. I can definitively say she has achieved both of these things and I look forward to returning to Lakaz Maman soon.
Pregnancy is hard and being a new Mum is even harder. When Kate, founder of the Pickle & Squidge Mummy To Be Boxes, realised this she decided to create a product to make that transition into Motherhood that little bit smoother. The Mummy To Be Boxes were inspired by Kate’s own transition to Motherhood back in 2013. All those sleepless nights left her with time to think and be inspired to create the Pickle & Squidge brand. The Mummy To Be Boxes contain everything that Kate herself found essential during those first few months of Motherhood (and beyond!), for both mum and baby. I’m sure all of us parents are only too well aware of how much clutter our children accumulate. And I’m sure that we’re equally as well aware of how damn expensive all of this clutter can be! You know the scenario; you buy your child a toy that you think they will love and cherish for weeks (being optimistic!) but within half an hour it’s been discarded to the plastic graveyard and you’re left wondering why you even bothered. I recently discovered Pound Toy which, as the name suggests, sells toys at some real bargain prices. I actually found items on the website for less than a pound! That definitely makes it sting less when they get discarded after half an hour. Continue reading “Pound Toy Review & Giveaway”
I’m sure I’m not the only person who tends to lose their way a bit when it comes to maternity fashion. (If it is just me, then somebody please tell me the secret!). My maternity wardrobe basically consists of a couple of pairs of maternity jeans and lots of stretchy tops. Which is fine for the most part, but every so often I find myself so totally bored by my maternity wardrobe and completely uninspired as to what to wear. I’m conscious of my changing body and while I try hard to celebrate my bump and embrace the changes, sometimes that’s a lot easier said than done. I know that clothes play a big part in my self confidence. If I feel happy and confident in what I’m wearing, it really shows. So that’s why I’m trying harder this pregnancy to find some maternity clothes that actually make me feel really good, and ‘like myself’. I lost myself last time I was pregnant, the clothes I was wearing weren’t anything I would normally wear, and I felt so conscious of that at the time. As a stay at home mum I often find myself slipping into the same routines with Darcie. We have park days and soft play days, play dates and family time. We also have our Longdown and Paulton’s Park annual passes which get a hell of a lot of use and always make for really good days out. As much as I know that I do a lot with Darcie (we hardly ever actually spend time at home!), sometimes it can all begin to feel a bit samey and I’m constantly thinking of different things we can do that will help her grow into a well rounded little person. So for this reason, I was really pleased when I heard about the Please DO Touch Trail that is currently running at Southampton City Art Gallery.
