10 Things That Have Made Me Happy This Week 16.12.17

Here we are again, another week has passed and so it is time for my weekly round up of things that have made me happy. I love writing these posts so I hope that you enjoy reading them.

1. Making salt dough decorations with Darcie
I tried to do this with her last year and it was nothing short of a total disaster. This year however was a completely different experience. Darcie loved sitting up on the counter and helping me make the dough, she rolled it out with me and loved using the cookie cutters to make different shapes and doing her little hand prints. Every time she put her hand in the dough she concentrated really hard, looked up at me and said ‘good?’ until I told her she was doing a great job, she just melts me! Last year they ended up rising in the oven but this time they have come out perfectly so the next job is just decorating! Continue reading “10 Things That Have Made Me Happy This Week 16.12.17”

How to Live a Less Cluttered Life

I know that some of my family and friends that have known me for a long time will be laughing even reading the title of this post. I used to be the Queen of Clutter. Seriously, I couldn’t throw anything away. I loved to hold onto things for sentimental value and ‘but I’ll probably use it int he future’ but it got to the point of sheer ridiculousness and I would find myself rummaging through shoe boxes of wristbands and ticket stubs trying to remember why I had held onto it all in the first place. We’ve moved four times in four years and each time we move I find myself cursing all the clutter than I have to move from one attic to the next. A couple of moves ago I decided enough was enough, it was time to get ruthless and I haven’t looked back ever since. Having Darcie and starting a family made me realise what the most important things in life are, and holding onto a lifetimes worth of junk really wasn’t adding any value to my life. I’ve extended this ruthlessness to many different areas of my life and house now and the result has been that I can now focus more on the people and things that are actually important. I’d recommend this type of detox to anyone so here are some of the things that I do to live a less cluttered life. Continue reading “How to Live a Less Cluttered Life”

Maternity & Nursing Style Picks September 2017

I think any breastfeeding Mum knows the struggle of finding clothes that are nursing friendly but that actually look nice as well. This has been a big personal battle for me, especially in the beginning when they are feeding so frequently and there’s not chance of ‘well maybe she won’t need a feed…’ Continue reading “Maternity & Nursing Style Picks September 2017”

Babies Are People Too!

img_8337Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about how much we expect from our children. We expect them to be hungry at a time that is convenient for us, we expect them to want to sleep at a time when we want to sleep and we expect them to like certain toys and games. But the thing that has been bothering me recently is how babies are expected to show us how happy they are in the form of smiles and laughter, all day, every day. From the moment that they first show us that gorgeous smile they are suddenly expected to smile on demand. Every stranger that pokes their head in their pram is looking for that gummy grin and every well meaning relative that brings them a new toy wants the acknowledgement of a giggle. But what if the baby doesn’t want to smile at a stranger? Or what if they are tired and don’t want to laugh at a new toy or a game of Peek-A-Boo? Quite often that child will be branded as shy or even thought to not be a happy and content baby. I think that people forget that babies are people too, they all have different personalities and likes and dislikes. Continue reading “Babies Are People Too!”
