It must be something about the January (and apparently February) blues but recently I have definitely got travel on the brain. I keep fantasising about white sand, clear blue seas and peace and relaxation. I love all different types of holidays, so sometimes I long to just go away and relax on a beach and other days I’ll be wishing I was hiking in the Andes or skydiving in Cape Town. I’ve definitely found that since having Darcie, I dream about relaxing beach holidays a lot more than I used to though! I wonder what that says about my change in lifestyle…! Regardless of kids being in or out of the equation I have always had an ultimate list of places I would love to visit and today I am going to share some of that list here.
Mexico
Mexico has always been on my list of places I would love to visit. Ever since I did a school project on it in Year 5, it has been stuck in my brain of places I really want to see. I don’t know much about the geography of the country but my Pinterest searching led me to look at vacation rentals in Los Cabos, and they look incredible! If you fancy a dose of Wanderlust then look no further than that link my friends. The sunsets and scenery look stunning and the rentals themselves are the definition of luxury to me. The area of Los Cabos is known for it’s beaches, whale watching, snorkelling and history. What more could you ask for? Right now, the thought of an escape to Mexico makes me want to ditch everything and jump on the nearest plane. Realistically I know I probably won’t be visiting for a while, but for now a girl can dream.
Bali
Bali has been top of my list for a good few years now. I’ve longed to visit way before it became the student backpackers destination of choice. For me, and I’m sure many others, I first wanted to visit Bali after reading Eat, Pray, Love. I became totally hooked on the culture and the feel of how it was portrayed in the book. I’ve always been totally intrigued by Buddhism too and would love to learn more about their way of life by becoming immersed in their culture for a while. I see this more as a kid free holiday, and so it is definitely one to put on hold for a while. Ideally I would want to travel around Bali and really immerse myself in the country rather than just spend a week or two there.
Greece
Ah finally! An achievable one for the next few years. I’ve always loved Greek food, and the sound of their culture and laid back way of life really appeals to me. I know they are very family orientated people which to me makes it the ideal destination to take the children. It’s also not too far to fly with kids and the weather really appeals to me, especially as I am writing this on a gloomy February day. Hopefully this will be one I get to tick off before too long.
Iceland
A couple of years ago, Dan and I backpacked around Norway and we fell totally in love with the country. From what I have seen and read of Iceland it looks like a country we would love for a lot of the same reasons. The scenery looks absolutely stunning and I would love to experience swimming in the hot springs. We aren’t just hot holiday people, as much as we appreciate warm weather it isn’t a necessity for me when it comes to booking a holiday. I think this could be an amazing holiday with or without children so I hope we’ll manage to make it over in next few years.
Nashville
America is such a huge place that I think it’s futile to say ‘I’d love to go to America’ because that could mean so many different things to different people. However, I am a huge country music fan and so I would love to go to where a lot of it originates from. I’d like to soak in the culture and learn more about the history of my favourite style of music. Going to local bars and listening to live country music would in Nashville is definitely on my bucket list not just for travel but for life! I’d also love to road trip around parts of America in a camper van and just stop off wherever we fancy along the way. New York has always appealed to me too, I love the idea of living out my best Carrie Bradshaw inspired lifestyle; visiting amazing bars and restaurants as well as going to see the best shows in the city.
So there we have it. That is just five of the places on my ultimate travel bucket list. The list goes on and on in my head, but I’ll spare you from reading it all in one sitting. Travel has always been very important to me and it is something that I want all of our current and future children to experience with us. I strongly believe in travel being one of the best types of education you can give your children and it’s absolutely the funnest too. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of holidays we took together as a family. Those countries I visited when I was young will always hold a special place in my heart and be places I want to take my own children.
Where would you love to travel to? I always love to get more travel inspiration!
