I don’t know about you, but as soon as the weather turns cooler and the evenings get darker, I start pining for hearty stews, casseroles and soups. There’s just something so comforting about cosying up in the warmth at home and enjoying a proper home cooked meal. I absolutely love cooking but having a toddler means I often find myself in an endless routine of nuggets, fish fingers and sausages. When I actually cook a hearty and healthy meal that the whole family enjoy it is such a wonderful feeling! I’m on a bit of a mission to try to get Darcie to eat a wider variety of foods and this time of year just feels like the perfect time to do that.
I’m also a total lover of beautiful kitchen and cookware and I always find cooking more enjoyable if I’ve got some new gadget or product to try. I’ve admired the VonShef range of products for as long as I can remember and so I was thrilled when they wanted to work with me on this review and giveaway of their new 4.7l Cream Cast Iron Casserole Dish. When the dish arrived, the first thing that struck me was just how heavy it was. It’s made from Cast Iron and has an enamel coating to stop food from sticking to it. The weight of it shows just how good quality and durable this dish is, and I know it will still be going strong many years from now. I was also so happy with just how beautiful it looks in my kitchen. As a pretty stereotypical twenty something year old blogger, I thrive on how ‘Instagrammable’ a product is, and this is almost certainly the most Insta-friendly casserole dish I’ve ever seen. The cream colour is lovely and the gold hexagonal handle is the perfect finishing touch to the detailed lid. The two handles mean it is easy to transport from the oven to the table.
It is very versatile too, safe to use in the oven up to 250 degrees and also on any other heat source including gas and induction hobs. Basically, it can do everything! It will be perfect for all of my favourite hearty dishes and I’m excited to cook up a storm in it over the coming months. My personal family friendly favourites are beef stew, sausage casserole, butternut squash soup and slow roasted pork. I’m also going to be making a point of adding some new dishes to my repertoire and so I’ve turned to some wonderful bloggers for some inspiration. This Slow Cooker Gammon Joint from Katy Kicker looks mouthwatering as does this Chicken Hot Pot from Twentyish Mum.
