Our Trip To The Lincolnshire Wolds

~ I’m delighted to work with East Lindsey District Council for this post, our stay was gifted but (as always) all opinions are my own ~

After much deliberation about holidays at the beginning of the year, this year has turned into the year of the mini break, the ‘staycation’ and the long weekends. Previously it’s all been about the big holidays and jetting off somewhere once a year, but I’ve found that since having children, these shorter breaks are a much less stressful way of having a break and enjoying some time away from home. This year has seen us visit Cornwall, London and Guernsey so far, and next to add to the list is the Lincolnshire Wolds. A little while ago I was contacted by East Lindsey District Council to see if we would like to spend some time exploring the hidden gem that is the Lincolnshire Wolds – of course I said yes so here we are! Myself, my mum and the kids had a fantastic stay in the Wolds at the end of August and I’m so excited to tell you all about it. (more…)

Dear Darcie, I’ll Always Be Your Safe Space

Dear Darcie,

Today you had your first full day at preschool; you’ve been doing half days for a few weeks now but you’re always so dissapointed to have to leave after lunch so we decided to try you out staying till the end of the day today. And you loved it, you had the best time all day playing with your friends and you even learnt how to make a spark to start a fire, which you haven’t stopped talking about (because it’s freaking amazing of course!). The thing that made me laugh was when I came to pick you up. Usually if I pick you up after a half day you areĀ  brought out to the school gate to meet me, but because it was a full day today I had to come into the preschool to get you. And you were fuming! You were happy to see me (thankfully – otherwise I would have cried!) but you wouldn’t stop telling me off. Crossing your little arms and doing your best attempt at an angry face ‘Mummy you have to wait at the gate!’. I did my best to point out that all the other parents had come in too, and that all of your friends had to go home as well. But you weren’t having any of it ‘Mummy we were talking! You have to wait at the gate’. (more…)

Dear Darcie, As You Start Pre School

Dear Darcie,

This week you start pre school and I wanted to write this letter to you before you do.

I want you to know how much I have adored this past three years at home with you. Yes. we’ve had our fair share of bad days but overall this has been such a happy time. The first two years it was just you and I against the world, and then this last year Ernie joined our little team too. You have made me so proud with how well you adapted to becoming a big sister, and I know I will feel that same pride again as you adapt to starting pre school this year, and then school the next. (more…)

Honest Sleepyhead Grand Review

Sleep is hot topic among us parents, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure every parent has struggled with their child’s sleep at some point. Whether that’s just a difficult sleep regression or some harder, ongoing problems. I remember writing a post all about Darcie’s sleep when she was a baby, she was definitely a ‘below average’ sleeper and that’s putting it nicely! When Ernie was born he slept very well, so well in fact that I became almost quite smug about it. I felt like the universe had put me through my paces with sleep from my first child and now it was giving me a break – a child that slept! He was the total opposite to Darcie, perfectly happy to sleep in his Moses basket away from me and only woke once or twice a night for a feed, right from the word go. For the first four months of his life I would proudly tell anyone who would listen all about my amazing little sleeper, until that is, he stopped. My old friend the four month sleep regression clearly remembered how much fun we had had together the first time and decided to go in again for round two. Ernie was still happy enough to sleep in his own bed but not for any good length of time at all. The night feeds became more and more frequent and he would never wake up happy anymore as he had obviously woken before his body needed to. Slowly but surely I drifted into the life I knew so well of sleepless nights, and snappy, irritated days. (more…)

Seven Reasons To Put Guernsey On Your ‘To Go’ List

Following my post last Autumn all about our trip to Jersey and my posts on Instagram, I was surprised by the amount of messages I had from people saying that they hadn’t previously considered a trip to the Channel Islands. And I was then pleased by them saying that now it was firmly on their radar! I realised just what an underrated holiday destination it is! When we recently had the opportunity to visit Guernsey I was so excited to see what one of the other Channel Islands had to offer, and also to be able to share it with all of you too. We had the most fantastic time away and so here I am, ready to tell you all the reasons why you should be adding Guernsey to your ‘to go’ list. (more…)
