Show Someone You Care | bakerdays Review

As you may have seen on my Instagram, Dan and I celebrated our six year anniversary a couple of weeks ago. When you get to six years together, it can be hard to know what to do to celebrate the day. As we are currently unable to leave Ernie (my gorgeous little bottle refuser!) we were planning a cosy evening at home and some quality time together just to mark the occasion. A takeaway, a film on the sofa, what more could you want? Well, that’s when bakerdays got in touch with me to see if I would like to review one of their letterbox cakes and that just became the perfect finishing touch to our day. I have such a sweet tooth so a cake through the post is quite literally my dream scenario!

Choosing The Cake

This was the most difficult bit as there were so many lovely designs to choose from. You can fully customise the look of the cake by using their templates and uploading pictures and text as you so wish. There are templates and designs for every occasion and celebration you can think of too! After a lot of deliberating I went for an adorable bear design with the words ‘I Love You Beary Much’ (can’t resist a pun, can I?) and had it customised with our names. I love all the designs where you can upload your own photo but I can never decide what photo to use so I stuck with an illustration one instead. Once you have picked your design you can choose the size of the cake and also the flavour, they have gluten and dairy free options to so there’s something for everyone!

Delivery

I went for the letterbox cake which does exactly what it says on the tin (pun totally intended) and fits through the letterbox. You might worry about how a cake will cope in transit but they are so well packaged that it arrived in perfect condition. The cake is displayed in an adorable tin which has little polystyrene tabs to hold the cake in place and make sure it doesn’t get damaged. I love that the cakes can go through the letterbox as it means you could send one as a surprise and you wouldn’t have the worry of the other person being in for delivery. They would have no idea to expect a cake either so it would be the most perfect surprise. At only £14.99, I think it’s such a beautiful idea to show someone you care.

Taste

Dan and I are both big fans of the traditional vicky sponge so that’s what I chose and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. The sponge was delicious and there was a good icing to cake ratio. The letterbox size was perfect for the two of us, and with sharing a piece with Darcie too, it meant that we could enjoy it without feeling too overindulgent afterwards.

Overall I was so impressed with the whole process and the taste of the cake so I’ll definitely be thinking of bakerdays next time I want to send someone a lovely surprise in the post. And, just so you know, if anyone ever fancies sending me a cake, I definitely wouldn’t complain!

*we were kindly gifted one letterbox cake for the purpose of this review, however all opinions are my own.
