Do you even have a Prefrontal Cortex though?

Did you know that our brains aren’t fully developed until we reach the age of around 25? I learnt this fact recently and it totally blew my (now fully developed) mind. The last part of our brains to finish developing is called the Prefrontal Cortex, and it’s the part in charge of problem solving, impulse control, reasoning and perseverance. Basically it’s the bit of our brain that helps us to make good, rational, well thought out decisions. So up until around this age, we really are just stumbling through life, doing the best we can – with a not totally developed brain. (more…)

This Quiet

The children are at school, the house is quiet.

For years I thought I wanted this quiet, I craved it, and I still sometimes do. When the house is loud, the mess is overwhelming, I still find myself longing for quiet. When sticky hands are everywhere, too many screens are making too many sounds and I can’t even hear my own thoughts. Quiet sounds nice. (more…)

Monday Musings | I Miss Them | Instagram Repost

I miss them-
When they are at school, I miss them.
The house is weirdly quiet and I haven’t quite worked out how to get on with my days without them here.
But when they come home from school everything becomes frantic- the emotions, the things they’ve been holding in to tell me all day, the battling for my attention. My day goes from 0-100 and I long for the same peace and quiet that has felt so wrong all day. And then the guilt sets in.

Toddler Crafts | Snow Scene Jar

This morning we made snow scene jars and Darcie enjoyed it so much that I thought I would share the idea on here too. I’ve seen pictures of similar jars on Pinterest but I’ve never seen it recommended as a toddler craft activity before. I love doing any crafts with Darcie but my favourite ones are definitely the ones that I end up wanting to display around the house. You could even use these jars as Christmas presents too, that’s how cute they look!

How I Pick Myself Up When I’m Feeling Low

Self confidence has been a battle for my whole life. I used to say that it’s only been since becoming a mother, but actually I’ve always struggled to feel confident in myself. When I was younger there was a big pressure to fit in with everyone else, to have the right clothes and go to the right places. I don’t think I ever quite grasped it, but I found a lot of confidence when I entered the working world. I liked earning my own money and providing for myself, I liked having the freedom to be who I wanted. I was finally away from the restrictions  and pressures of school, college or university. And then motherhood hit me like a ton of bricks. Suddenly the financial independence was gone, my clothes didn’t fit and I didn’t have the time or the energy to do any of the things that made me feel good in myself. (more…)

Life, Lockdown & Loungewear

I’ve been neglecting my blog again. I write posts, I save them as drafts. Drafts that I forget to come back too. I have a thought, I quickly share it on Instagram. What would have previously become a blog post, is now lost in a sea of posts and stories. It’s a shame, because I love this space so much. My blog was my first love online, this is where it all began. In many ways this blog got me through the early days of Motherhood. Just having this space to write has always meant so much, regardless of how many people were reading my words. (more…)
