Finding Your Style As A Mum

It’s easy to lose your sense of style when you become a mum. Being pregnant and breastfeeding both alter the types of clothes you can easily wear, and then when you aren’t pregnant anymore and your baby weans, a lot of us are left feeling a bit lost style-wise. In that time it is likely that fashions will have changed too, which can make it even harder to figure out what you want to wear and what suits you now. When Femme Luxe offered to send me some pieces, it felt like the perfect time to write this post and share some tips with you on how to find your style again after having children. (more…)

No Playroom, No Problem

Like most people in the UK, I’m spending a lot of time at home right now. But the difference between myself and a lot of those people, is that I’m quite used to being at home! We love to get out and about but as a stay at home mum to two under three, I’ve had to find ways to enjoy being at home too. I’ve often wished we had a designated playroom so that I had somewhere fun to contain all of the toys (and children!) that I’m always finding around the house. But rather than sit and mope about my lack of playroom I’ve instead made the best of what we’ve got. And, to be honest, I love our current set up. As much as a playroom would be lovely, it’s also wonderful to have the children, and their belongings, interspersed with us and our ‘grown up’ spaces too. (more…)

10 Things That Have Made Me Happy This Week 22.03.20

Long time readers of this blog will remember the days when I used to manage to churn out one of these lists once a week. They’re some of my favourite posts to look back on but somehow I got out of the habit of writing them. In the light of everything that is going on right now, I have decided to bring them back. Because although these are very difficult times for all of us, there is still a lot to be happy about and thankful for. This week we’ve been in self isolation after returning from Spain and Ernie has got chicken pox, but there have still been countless things that have made me smile, and I want to record some of them here. So that I can look back at this bizarre period of time and remember the good bits, not just the news headlines. Here are ten things that have made me happy this week: (more…)

Self Care In Motherhood

Self care is a hot topic at the moment. Everyone has a different idea of what self care means, and rather than all trying to agree I think we all need to just accept that it looks different to everyone. For some people it’s pamper time, for other’s it’s ticking jobs off the to do list and for other’s it’s a hardcore gym session or seeing friends. The most important thing is that we actually get to have some self care once in a while, whatever that might look like for us. We all have things that stand in the way of us getting that time to refresh and recharge our batteries, and as busy mums sometimes it can feel impossible to get much time that is truly just for us. Even if someone takes the kids for an hour, most of us end up spending that time on housework or life admin, because it feels much more productive. But if there is one thing I’ve learnt over the last four years of motherhood, it’s that I’m no use to anyone if I’m burnt out. As they say ‘prevention is better than a cure’, and to me self care is the only prevention for burn out and overwhelm. It’s important, and it’s healthy to prioritise it once in a while. (more…)

Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2020

If you read my last post on What Mother’s Day Means To Me then I won’t need to tell you again just how important I think it is to celebrate Mother’s Day. I love the excuse to celebrate not just my own motherhood but all the women around me too. We’re raising the future, just as the generations before us have done. They deserve thanks and recognition, and so do we. So just in case you are stuck on what to get for your mum, or a friend, or a grandparent this Mother’s Day, here is a list of ideas that I really think you can’t go too far wrong with!

What Mother’s Day Means To Me

Mother’s Day – I have to admit it’s one of my favourite days of the year. And not simply from a ‘everyone needs to buy me chocolate and treat me like a queen’ point of view, but more because it’s actually a day to celebrate what I would consider to be my greatest achievement in life – being a mother. And to also take the opportunity to celebrate other mothers around me. Because, let’s be honest, on a day to day basis it’s very easy to forget to celebrate all of the things that mothers do for everyone around them. I find myself so caught up in every day life that I hardly ever stop and realise quite how much I do for my children. At the end of the day I often wonder what I have actually achieved, but even on those days I’ve kept my babies alive, well and happy – which is a great achievement in itself! (more…)
